FINAL (SO): Rangers 2, Otters 3
The Kitchener Rangers welcomed the Erie Otters to The Aud for the first time this season. The Rangers were looking to build off their last win against the Windsor Spitfires on December 28th.
Midway through the 1st period, the Rangers took a penalty but were able to kill it off. Pavel Cajan was relied on heavily in the period, as the Otters outshot the Rangers 14-4.
Early in the 2nd period, Justin Nolet scored on the powerplay, making it 1-0 Rangers. Later, Francesco Pinelli made a sweet move off a pass from Declan McDonnell to put us up 2-0. Erie scored late on the powerplay to cut the lead to 2-1. The Rangers would hope to carry some momentum over into the 3rd period.
Halfway through the 3rd period, Erie would capitalize to tie the game 2-2. Both teams exchanged chances but neither could find the back of the net. Overtime would be needed in the game.
Overtime did not solve anything and a shootout was needed.
Erie’s Carey Terrance would score the shootout winner to give the Otters the 3-2 win. Despite the loss, Pavel Cajan was stellar stopping 47 of 50 shots.
Our next home game is Saturday, January 8th at 4 p.m. against the Erie Otters.
