FINAL: Rangers 6, Knights 4
The Kitchener Rangers welcomed The London Knights to The Aud for our inaugural You Can Play game. We were looking to get back in the win column after earning a hard-fought point in Flint on Wednesday night.
Five minutes into the game, Reid Valade scored on a breakaway to give us the early 1-0 lead. Joseph Serpa scored on a 2-on-1 opportunity, extending the lead to 2-0. London thought they got on the board from a scramble in front of Pavel Cajan, but after further review, there was goalie interference on the play. We took the 2-0 lead into the intermission and would look to carry the momentum into the 2nd.
Early in the period, Carson Rehkopf took a double minor high-sticking and put London on the powerplay. London would capitalize on the back half of the powerplay, cutting our lead in half. Midway through the 2nd, we were given a powerplay opportunity. Despite having good chances, we were unable to capitalize. We took a 2-1 lead into the 3rd period.
London scored at the seven-minute mark, tying the game 2-2. In the late stages of a powerplay, Carson Rehkopf jumped on a rebound to regain the lead, making it 3-2. Later, London would crawl back and tie the game again. With three minutes remaining in the 3rd, Matthew Sop scored to make it 4-3. Reid Valade would add an empty-net goal, to extend the lead to 5-3. London would get one back with two minutes left, making it 5-4. Mike Petizian scored another empty-net goal to secure the win.
We would win this matchup by a final score of 6-4.
Our next game is Saturday, February 12th, in Owen Sound at 7:30 p.m.
