Final: Rangers 6, Attack 2
Owen Sound, ON.: It was the Rangers first of eight games versus the Attack this season and it was all Kitchener right from the get-go with five goals in the first period that led to an early netminder change for Owen Sound.
Jonathan Yantsis scored two goals to up his season total to 26 and Lucas Pfeil stopped 25 of 27 shot in the 6-2 Rangers win.

The first period began with a too many men penalty to the Attack at 3:49. On the ensuing powerplay, Ryan Stepien netted his second goal of the season on assists by Eric Guest and Donovan Sebrango.
At 5:36 it was 1-0 Rangers.
Seconds later, at 6:11, the Rangers went up two on Isaac Langdon’s second goal in as many nights, and third of the season, on assists by Mike Petizian and Stepien to double Kitchener’s lead, 2-0.
At 8:35, Jonathan Yantsis widened the Rangers lead on a wrist shot from just outside the faceoff circle to make it 3-0.
Number four, Joseph Garreffa, put Kitchener up by four with some help by Chase Campbell and Petizian and at 13:36 it was 4-0.
That goal chased Andrew MacLean from his net, which made way for Mack Guzda.
With just 37 seconds left in the opening frame, Greg Meireles got in on the scoring with his 14th of the season on an assist from Yantsis.
The first period ended with the Rangers up 5-0.
Kitchener outshot Owen Sound 19-10.
The second period saw a more even pace of play. Michael Vukojevic took a boarding penalty at 17:30 and just 24 seconds later, Kevin Hancock spoiled Lucas Pfeil’s shutout with his 28th goal of the season to make it 5-1.
Shots on goal after 40 minutes were 27-19 for the Rangers.
Late in the third period, at 15:12, the Attack’s Jackson Doherty buried his third of the season to help the Attack come within three, 5-2.
Kitchener responded in kind just moments later when Jonathan Yantsis, with help from Justin MacPherson, scored his second of the night to extend the Rangers lead to 6-2 and that’s how the game would end.
Owen Sound was outshot 37-27 in Pfeil’s fifth win of the season.
The Rangers next home game is on Tuesday, January 1 at 2:00 pm versus the Peterborough Petes. The next road game for Kitchener is on Saturday, January 5 at 7:05 pm versus Saginaw.
