FINAL: Rangers 4, Knights 3

After an exciting game six at The Aud last night, the Rangers headed to London for Game 7 of this 2022 OHL Playoff series with the Knights. Antonino Stranges returned to the lineup for the Knights, and Brochu will return to the net as starting goaltender for this game. The Rangers once again rely on the outstanding Pavel Cajan in net for this do-or-die game.

The first period was fast-paced right out of the gate, with the Rangers controlling a lot of the action in the first couple of minutes. Mitchell Martin opens the scoring, with a nice feed from Joseph Serpa and Reid Valade. The Knights try to get one back, but Cajan is up to the challenge and stops all 15 shots in the period.

An offsetting penalty was called early on in the second period and saw a bit of 4-on-4 hockey before Joseph Serpa gets called for high-sticking. The Rangers are able to kill it off, and Cajan makes a couple of great saves to keep the Rangers up 1-0. Baber ends up getting a breakaway off a turnover and scores to tie the game.

The Rangers get called for too many men on the ice and go back to the penalty kill, despite a solid start to the kill, London scores (Evangelista). Barkey gets called for unsportsmanlike conduct, and the Rangers go on to score on the powerplay (Reid Valade from Joseph Serpa and Justin Nolet).

Motew gets called for high-sticking and the Rangers penalty kill unit does a great job fighting off the 4-minute major. The Knights end up helping out the Rangers to kill off the entire penalty, as Sim slashes Cajan and we get 4-on-4 hockey once again to finish off the period.

The stream of penalties continues into the third as Baber puts a high-stick on Pinelli, but the Rangers powerplay unit can’t get one in on Brochu. Shortly after the penalty expires Stranges makes it 3-2 for London with 17 minutes left to play in the period. Joseph Serpa gets one back for the Rangers to re-tie the game, two minutes after the London goal. Another two many men on the ice is called on the Blueshirts, and the PK unit comes out to work once more and kills it off. Cajan is spectacular in the last couple of minutes of the 3rd, and pushes this game into overtime.

Lots of chances for both teams, as the exciting pace continues into overtime. Finally, Mike Petizian sends The Kitchener Rangers to the next round!
