FINAL: Rangers 3, Spitfires 5
The Kitchener Rangers welcomed The Windsor Spitfires to The Aud for their second last home game of the regular season. The Rangers were looking to get back in the win column and increase their points lead over Sarnia for 7th place.
Five minutes into the game, Windsor scored on a rebound opportunity to take the 1-0 lead. Matthew Andonovski took a tripping penalty and Windsor scored on the man advantage, making it 2-0. Late in the period, the line of Serpa, Mutter, and Valade generated some momentum. This shift ended with Valade going end to end for a goal and getting the Rangers within one. With less than a minute left, Mike Petizian scored his 31st of the season to tie the game at 2-2.
Windsor scored seven minutes into the 2nd period, giving them a 3-2 lead. Reid Valade immediately responded, scoring another highlight-reel goal and tied the game 3-3. Both teams had their share of chances but neither could find the back of the net. The Rangers were looking to crack Windsor’s Xavier Medina a few more times to jump out to a lead for the first time in the game.
The 3rd period again started with both teams trading chances but Windsor would sneak one past Cajan to make it 4-3. Despite a strong push from the Rangers, they could not capitalize. Windsor added a late empty net to make it 5-3. We look to bounce back as we play in Erie tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m.
Our final home game is on Friday, April 8th, at 7:30 p.m. against Sarnia.
