Rangers acquire Tristan Malboeuf in Trade with Brantford
Kitchener, ON – The Kitchener Rangers announced today that the club has completed a trade with the Brantford Bulldogs.
In the trade, Kitchener acquires goaltender Tristan Malboeuf (mal-BUFF). In return, Kitchener trades a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2026 OHL Priority Selection and a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2027 OHL Priority Selection.
“We are excited to welcome Tristan to the team,” said Kitchener Rangers General Manager Mike McKenzie. “He has experience in the league and will solidify our goaltending position by having two very strong options. It’s such an important position and having both Tristan and Jackson will give us a chance to win in all 68 games this season.”
Malboeuf, a six-foot, 175-pound goaltender was drafted in the 15th round by Brantford in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection before signing an OHL Standard Player Agreement (SPA) and education package with the Bulldogs in September of 2021. The Oakville native spent most of the 2021-22 season, with the Oakville Blades of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) where he recorded an impressive 0.908 save percentage (SAV%) in 20 games with two being shutouts. He earned the ice in three games with the Bulldogs where he recorded a 0.849 SAV% and 3.98 goals against average (GAA) one of those games was a shut-out. In the 2022-23 season, Malboeuf took the net in 30 games for the Bulldogs, where he recorded 0.897 SAV%, 3.39 GAA, and one shutout.
Malboeuf will wear number 29 for the Rangers. He will join the team for their home opener on Friday, September 29th against the Saginaw Spirit.
