FINAL: Rangers 3, Storm 2
The Rangers played The Guelph Storm for the 5th time this season at The Aud on Sunday, March 20th at 2pm. This would be the 8th time both teams have met overall, with the Storm last visiting The Aud on January 16th. The Rangers looked to continue tallying important points towards obtaining a playoff spot.
The Rangers came out hot in the first period, with many opportunities for the Blueshirts. Mike Petizian continued his scoring streak shorthanded and potted one in to give The Rangers the lead (Assisted by Justin Nolet). This was his fourth short-handed goal this season. The Rangers would exit the period up one nill on The Storm.
The second shifted in Guelph’s direction, as the Rangers were dealt with penalty calls. Bowman capitalizes on this for the Storm to tie the game at one, but shortly after another penalty is taken by the Blueshirts and Jake Karabela scores to put the Storm up by one (Assists: Sasha Pastujov, Cam Allen). We would end period two in a one goal deficit and looked to bring the energy back for the third.
The third began with The Rangers successfully killing off the remaining time from a Mitchell Martin penalty. The Rangers would then go on to tie the game, as rookie forward Andrew LeBlanc continues his hot streak that began on Friday. Simon Motew pots the game-winning goal to give the Rangers another important win against a division rival.
The Kitchener Ranger’s next game is Tuesday, March 22nd when we head to Windsor to take on The Spitfires at 7 pm. The next home game is Sunday, March 27th at 2 pm vs. The Flint Firebirds. Another vaccine clinic will be on-site and walk-ins are available.
