56 OHL Players Ranked for 2013 NHL Draft

 

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that 159 CHL players appear in NHL Central Scouting’s Midterm Rankings for the 2013 NHL Draft.

 

 

The domestic rankings list a total of 210 North American skaters including 133 from the CHL, also listing an additional 35 North American goaltenders including 26 that currently compete in the CHL.

 

 

The top-19 ranked skaters are all from the CHL beginning with defenceman Seth Jones of the Portland Winterhawks.  Halifax Mooseheads’ forwards Nathan MacKinnon and Jonathan Drouin are listed second and third respectively, followed by Sean Monahan of the Ottawa 67’s, and Hunter Shinkaruk of the Medicine Hat Tigers rounding out the top-5.  The top-10 also includes defenceman Ryan Pulock of the Brandon Wheat Kings ranked at number six, forward Frederik Gauthier of the Rimouski Oceanic at seven, forward Valentin Zykov of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar at number eight, defenceman Darnell Nurse of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds is ranked ninth, and forward Anthony Mantha of the Val-d’Or Foreurs is ranked tenth.

 

 

Seven of the top-10 ranked goalies are from the CHL including four of the top-5 beginning with Zachary Fucale of the Halifax Mooseheads.  Eric Comrie of the Tri-City Americans is ranked at number two, Tristan Jarry of the Edmonton Oil Kings is ranked third, and Spencer Martin of the Mississauga Steelheads is ranked fifth overall among goaltenders.

 

 

The Western Hockey League leads the way with 59 players appearing in the rankings including 48 skaters and 11 goaltenders, followed by 56 players from the Ontario Hockey League (47 skaters and nine goaltenders), and 44 players from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (38 skaters and six goaltenders). 

 

 

All 40 CHL players competing in the 2013 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game on January 16 in Halifax, NS, appear in the midterm rankings including 31 of the top-40 skaters.
