Two Unanswered Goals Hoist Otters Past Hamilton
As the Erie Otters kicked off their four game road trip in Canada, they scored two third period goals to secure a 2-1 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs.
The first period ended scoreless as both teams exchanged some unpleasantries that carried over from the previous meeting. Erie generated most of the opportunities with two power play chances, which led to them leading in shots 13-7.
As the second frame got underway the Bulldogs started to pick up the physicality. After killing an Otters 5-on-3 Hamilton conceded another minor penalty but quickly turned the negative into a positive. Niki Petti collected his second shorthanded goal of the season 14 seconds into the penalty kill to put the Bulldogs up one.
Early in the third period Kyle Maksimovich launched a rocket of a wrist shot past the Hamilton goalkeeper to tie the game. Feeding on the energy of that goal just four minutes later Maksimovich saucer pasted a puck to Taylor Raddysh who buried it to give the Otters the lead. As the period came to a close Erie relied on the play of Darren Raddysh who had some key blocked shots and logged a lot of minutes throughout the game.
The Otters will travel to North Bay to play the 19-14-1-2 Battalion on Thursday, January 7th at 7 p.m.
