Otters Drop a Tough One in North Bay
After 3 unanswered goals by the North Bay Battalion in the first four minutes of the third period the Erie Otters lost their fifth game of the season in regulation 3-2.
At the midway point of the first period the Otters broke the stalemate on the power play with some gorgeous passing. Dylan Strome sent the puck cross-ice to Kyle Maksimovich who quickly taped it to a wide-open Alex DeBrincat to put the Otters up one.
The Otters continued dominating the possession in the second and reaped the benefits just over halfway into the period. Jake Marchment picked the puck up on a turnover by the Battalion and quickly deposited it into the net to give the Otters a 2-0 lead.
Erie had a rough start to the third period when goalie Devin Williams injured himself falling awkwardly behind the net, which led to an easy goal by North Bay. Williams was replaced by Jake Lawr who was immediately tested by the Battalion who scored two goals in a minute to make it 3-2 just four minutes into the final period. Lawr settled in between the pipes and made some key saves late in the third period as the Otters fought to score a tying goal but came up short.
The Otters are back in action tomorrow night versus the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds (17-18-4-1) at 7:07 p.m.
