Otters Defeat Frontenacs 4-1, Retake First Place In The Midwest
Erie, Pennsylvania – The Erie Otters rebounded Saturday night with a 4-1 victory over the Kingston Frontenacs at the Erie insurance Arena to improve their home record to 3-1 and take sole possession of first place in the Midwest Division.
Erie started the night’s scoring with a power play goal from Hayden Fowler just under eight minutes into the game, Erie’s third straight game with a power play goal. Kingston goaltender Ryan Dugas did his best to keep the Frontenacs in the game late in the period, stopping one great chance and getting help from his post on a second chance in the same sequence, with four minutes and 20 seconds to go in the opening frame. Chad Yetman added to the Otters lead with less than two minutes remaining, giving his team a two-goal advantage heading into the second frame.
Kingston’s Nick Wong opened the scoring in the middle stanza nearly five and a half minutes in, cutting the Erie lead to one goal. Daniel D’Amato answered quickly though, reagaining Erie’s two-goal lead less than two minutes later. Maxim Golod provided the Otters some added insurance with their fourth goal of the night halfway through the period, giving Erie a 4-1 lead.
The third period included great goaltending from both teams, but it was Otters netminder Aiden Campbell who improved to 3-0 on the season after a 29 save performance backstopping the 4-1 victory.
The Otters will look to continue their winning ways on October 11 when the Hamilton Bulldogs visit the Erie Insurance Arena.
