Force Is Strong With Erie, Otters Top IceDogs 5-4 On Star Wars Night
Erie, Pennsylvania – Maxim Golod scored a goal and added three assists to lead the Erie Otters to a come-from-behind 5-4 victory over the Niagara IceDogs Saturday at the Erie Insurance Arena in front of 5,506 on the team’s first ever Star Wars night.
The Otters controlled the pace through the first period and opened the game’s scoring at the 5:12 mark. Jack Duff and Maxim Golod collected assists on Elias Cohen’s third goal of the season. Erie added to its lead at the 12:46 mark when Brendan Hoffmann scored from Jacob Golden and Daniel D’Amato. The Otters held a 13-2 shot advantage to accompany their 2-0 lead as they went into the intermission.
Niagara took control of the game in the second period as Dakota Betts scored at the 6:23 mark of the middle frame. Ethan Sims tied the game at the 13:27 mark, and Lucas Theriault gave the IceDogs a 3-2 lead 91 seconds later. Mason Howard padded the Niagara lead and the Otters went into the intermission trailing 4-2.
Golod scored from Austen Swankler and Cohen at the 9:11 mark of the third to make the score 4-3. Golod and Golden set up Swankler for the game-tying goal with less than four minutes remaining in the game. Connor Lockhart gave the Otters the lead to complete the comeback with a powerplay goal assisted by Golod and Golden.
The Erie Otters Star Wars themed jerseys are up for auction through the Live Source mobile app until January, 6th 2020. Proceeds from the jersey auction will benefit United Way of Erie’s Imagination Library, a free program to Erie county children that provides their families a book every month from birth to age five to encourage reading and literacy.
The Otters will look to increase their win streak to four games when they visit the Kitchener Rangers Sunday, December 29, for a 2:00 p.m. matinee.
