THREE STARS: Big Performances Bring Out The Brooms
Erie, Pennsylvania – The Erie Otters decided to do some cleaning to start November – they broke out the brooms and swept the weekend series.
The Otters knew the week would not be easy. Their first opponent on the weekend would be the Brantford Bulldogs, who went into the game with a seven-game point streak. The Otters put up three unanswered goals through the first and second periods, but the Bulldogs would claw their way back to a 3-3 tie. With just over five minutes left in the second frame, Malcolm Spence would convert a short-handed goal to secure the Otters’ win and end the Bulldogs’ hot streak.
At home on Saturday, the Otters would face the Barrie Colts on a hot streak of their own. Going into Saturday’s game, the Colts had won six of their last seven games with their only loss being your Erie Otters. The Otters would once again be the breaker of streaks, this time with a commanding 4-0 clean sheet victory.
Here are the players who made this week possible.
THIRD STAR – CAREY TERRANCE
The captain strutted his stuff on the ice this weekend!
Carey Terrance’s contributions on Friday against the Bulldogs would be the difference-maker and would earn him First Star honors on the night. Terrance found his third goal of the season less than two minutes into the second frame to put the Otters up 3-0. After a Brantford surge that leveled the game, Terrance would find Malcolm Spence for a short-handed goal to seal the Erie victory.
In Saturday’s decisive 4-0 win over the Barrie Colts, the captain would score a short-handed goal of his own just over twelve minutes into the match to make it a 2-0 game.
SECOND STAR – PANO FIMIS
Pano Fimis’ three points on the weekend did a few things: extended his point streak to seven in five games, made Fimis the Otters’ points leader with 20, and helped the Otters pull off an impressive weekend sweep.
On Friday against the Bulldogs, Fimis and Martin Misiak would team up to find Carey Terrance to put the Otters up 3-0.
Fimis would take credit for two of the four Erie goals in Saturday’s shutout against the Colts. 90 seconds into the game, Fimis would find the back of the net in what would end up being the game-winner. Fimis would hammer in those final nails in the coffin of the Colts’ defeat by scoring his second of the night seven minutes into the second period.
FIRST STAR – NOAH ERLIDEN
Have a shutout, rookie! The Swedish Chef Noah Erliden found his very first North American and OHL shutout on Saturday!
To start the weekend, Erliden would weather the Brantford storm in the second frame to see the Otters through to a 4-3 victory with scoreless first and third periods. He picked up 24 saves off 27 shots to ensure the Otters’ victory.
On Saturday, the American spirit of Country Night must have filled the Swedish import draft pick because he was absolutely electric in the net. Erliden nabbed all 23 of the Barrie shots to earn First Star honors on the night and his very first OHL shutout.
The Otters face three games coming up, starting on the road on Thursday against the Niagara IceDogs. They’ll hit the road again on Friday to face the Guelph Storm before returning home on Saturday to play the Sarnia Sting. Saturday’s game will also be Erie’s annual Military Appreciation Night (pres. by Your Central Western Pennsylvania Toyota Dealer), and the first 1500 fans to enter the arena will receive a FREE Camo Otters Hat!
