Erie Snaps Skid In Hanover
Hanover, ON – The Erie Otters evened their preseason record Sunday afternoon after a 3-1 win over the Owen Sound Attack in an exhibition matchup held at the sold-out P&H Centre in Hanover, Ontario.
Special teams were key as the Otters scored all three of their goals on the power play. Michael Curtis registered a hat trick, netting every goal for the Otters on Sunday. Connor McDavid, who now has two goals and nine assists in the preseason, picked up the primary helper on each of Curtis’ tallies.
Erie opened the scoring at 12:41 in the first period when McDavid found Curtis open in the slot in part of a two-on-two rush. Curtis quickly released a wrist shot that beat Attack goaltender Brandon Hope.
Owen Sound battled back to tie the game at one midway through the second period on a goal from Daniel Pugliese. It took the Otters just under three minutes to respond when Curtis notched his second of the game on a 5-on-3 power play chance.
With another power play opportunity midway through the third period, Connor McDavid set up Michael Curtis yet again on a back door play to complete the hat trick and send the Otters back to Erie with a 3-1 victory.
The Otters now sit with a preseason record of 2-2. They will finish out their exhibition schedule this weekend with a Friday night matchup in Kitchener and a Sunday afternoon tilt against Mississauga.
