Erie Falls To Barrie 4-2
Barrie, Ont. – The Erie Otters fell to the Barrie Colts by the score of 4-2 in Friday night’s preseason contest at the Barrie Molson Center.
The Otters were forced to play shorthanded Friday due to injuries and the recent departure of several players to NHL rookie camps.
Despite leading the first period in shots 12-8, Erie found themselves trailing at the end of the first 20 minutes after Tyson Fawcett snuck one past Daniel Dekoning midway through the period.
The Otters tied the game up at 19:01 of the second period when newcomer Michael Curtis banged home a Connor McDavid pass from the slot for his first goal as an Erie Otter.
Connor McDavid gave Erie a 2-1 lead early in the third period when he banked the puck off of a defenseman and into the goal. This was the first time the Otters grabbed the lead Friday night.
Barrie would reclaim the lead after a pair of goals from Andrew Mangiapane at 11:33 and 16:58 of the third period. Brendan Lemieux would redirect a point shot into the goal with under a minute to go to put the game out of reach.
Friday night marked the first time recently acquired defenseman Cory Genovese skated with the Otters. Connor McDavid continued his preseason tear with a goal and an assist in Friday’s preseason match-up, meaning he has figured in on every goal scored by Erie this preseason.
The Erie Otters will travel to Hanover, Ontario, on Sunday for a preseason matchup with the Owen Sound Attack. The game will take place at the Hanover P&H Centre as a neutral site location. The game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
