Erie Acquires Kurtis MacDermid from Owen Sound
The Erie Otters Hockey Club’s General Manager and Owner Sherry Bassin announced Thursday that the team has acquired defenseman Kurtis MacDermid from the Owen Sound Attack in exchange for draft picks.
“MacDermid is the kind of defenseman this organization has been looking at for a long time,” Sherry Bassin said Thursday morning. “He’s a high character player and team oriented defenseman. He moves the puck well, makes few mistakes in his own zone, and will make it much tougher to get to our net.”
Kurtis MacDermid, a 6’4”, 215 pound, 19-year-old defenseman from Sauble Beach, Ontario, has spent parts of three seasons with the Owen Sound Attack. A seventh round pick at the 2010 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection, MacDermid has played 112 regular season games in the OHL recording 26 points and 207 penalty minutes.
MacDermid signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Los Angeles Kings of the NHL in September, 2012.
“His deal says a lot about how far he’s come,” Bassin said. “Credit to the young man, he’s worked hard to earn a contract with a top NHL organization.”
In exchange for MacDermid, Owen Sound will receive Erie’s second round pick in the 2016, 2018, and 2019 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selections. Erie will also send along a conditional third round pick in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection.
