Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced the Top OHL Performers of the Month for regular season games played in March 2015, including Kingston Frontenacs forward Sam Bennett, Soo Greyhounds defenceman Anthony DeAngelo, Erie Otters rookie Alex DeBrincat and Kingston Frontenacs goaltender Lucas Peressini.
OHL Rookie of the Month – Alex DeBrincat (Erie Otters):
Erie Otters winger Alex DeBrincat is the OHL Rookie of the Month for the third time this season. DeBrincat’s big month of March included points in all nine of the games he played, racking up a total of 11 goals, 13 assists and 24 points with a plus/minus rating of plus-18. The 17 year-old native of Farmington Hills, MI, had goals in seven contests and received star of the game recognition on six different occasions. DeBrincat closed out the year registering a career-high six points in an 8-7 win in Niagara on March 22, scoring while adding five assists. He was the Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week for the week ending March 8 after he registered nine points (3-6–9) in three games.
DeBrincat becomes the first Otters rookie to ever accrue 100 points and score 50 goals in a season. He becomes the first 17-year-old OHL rookie to reach the century mark and score 50 goals since Plymouth’s David Legwand did so during the 1997-98 season. The 5’7″, 160Ib forward finishes the year with 51 goals, 53 assists and 104 points with a plus/minus rating of plus-59 and is an OHL Rookie of the Year finalist.
