Otters Weekly Round-Up – May 16 – 22
PIT V NYI (Adam Pelech)
Series tied 2-2
The Pittsburgh Penguins and the New York Islanders have alternated victories as the series is tied 2-2 through four games. Adam Pelech has yet to record a point in the series. Game 5 is set for Monday, May 24 at 7 pm EST as the Islanders return to Pittsburgh.
CAR V NSH (Warren Foegele)
Series tied 2-2
The Nashville Predators have tied the series at two games apiece after winning both games 3 and 4 in double OT to send the series back to Raleigh. Warren Foegele scored a goal in game 2 as Carolina shut out Nashville 3-0. Foegele also tallied an assist in game 3 when the Hurricanes fell to the Predators 5-4 in 2OT. The series continues Tuesday, May 25 at 8 pm EST.
FLA V TBL (Erik Cernak, Anthony Cirelli, Mason Marchment)
Lightning lead 3-1
The Tampa Bay Lightning lead the Florida Panthers 3-1 through four games. Mason Marchment scored his first NHL Playoff goal in game 2, however with Anthony Cirelli assisting a goal in period one the Bolts defeated the Panthers 3-1, Marchment was awarded the 3rd Star of The Game. Cirelli went on to score a goal in game 3, however it was not enough as they fell to the Panthers 6-5 in OT. Erik Cernak tallied an assist while Cirelli added a goal and an assist to Saturday’s 6-2 win the Bolts have a chance to advance to Round 2 as they take on the Panthers on the road in Sunrise, Florida for game 5 on Monday, May 24 at 8 pm EST.
COL V STL (Andre Burakovsky, Ryan O’Reilly)
Avalanche win 4-0
Colorado dominated the St. Louis Blues through 4 games as they were officially swept the first round series on Sunday. Ryan O’Reilly was able to assist a shorthanded goal in game 3. The Avalanche will advance to Round 2 and will play the winner of the Vegas Golden Knights v Minnesota series where Vegas currently leads 3-1. Ryan O’Reilly finished the regular season with 54 points and the post season with 3 points.
TOR V MTL (Travis Dermott)
Series tied 1-1
Toronto and Montreal are tied 1-1 through 2 games. Travis Dermott has yet to tally any post season points. The series will continue with game 3 as the Leafs go on the road to Montreal on Monday, May 24 at 7 pm EST.
EDM V WPG (Connor McDavid)
Jets lead 3-0
The Winnipeg Jets lead the Edmonton Oilers 3-0. Connor McDavid was held pointless through games 1 and 2, however he found the scoresheet on Sunday with three assists in the Jets 5-4 OT victory over the Oilers. Game 4 is set for Monday, May 24 as Edmonton will play on the road in Winnipeg at 9:45 pm EST.
San Diego Gulls, AHL (Jamie Drysdale, Max Golod)
The AHL announced that they will not be crowing a Calder Cup champion due to COVID-19, however the Pacific Division set up a best of 3 playoff series of their own. The winner will receive the John D. Chick trophy and be crowed the Pacific Division Champion. The San Diego Gulls are taking on the Bakersfield Condors in the semifinals. So far the series is tied 1-1, Drysdale tallied two assists in Game 1 as the Gulls defeated the Condors 5-3. San Diego will play on the road in Bakersfield, CA for Game 3 Monday, May 24 at 9:00 pm EST to determine who will advance!
