Otters Hook Steelheads for 5-3 Win, Tie Spitfires for Final Playoff Spot
ERIE, PA – The Erie Otters returned to home ice on Saturday evening, where they took on the visiting Mississauga Steelheads. Erie struck early with a goal in the opening two minutes from Mathew MacDougall, but were answered only minutes later with a Steelhead goal from Nick Isaacson to tie it up at one. Erie tacked on shorthanded goal from Chad Yetman for his 21st tally of the year, and headed into the intermission ahead 2-1.
In the early moments of the second period, Mississauga tied things at two with a powerplay goal from Keean Washkurak for the lone score of the period.
In the third, Mississauga found their first lead of the game with an early goal from Nicholas Canade. Erie answered quickly with a goal of their own from Danial Singer to tie the game back up at three, and tacked on two more from Brendan Hoffmann and Hayden Fowler to win the game 5-3.
Tonight’s victory elevated the Otters to 56 points in the standings, tying the Windsor Spitfires for eighth place in the Western Conference and the final playoff position with eight days left in the regular season.
The Otters will be back in action on Tuesday night at 7PM when they travel to Mississauga to visit the Steelheads and make up a previously rescheduled game due to weather.
