Otters Assistant Coach Wolfe Named Head Coach of Coburg Cougars
Erie Otters Vice President of Operations / General Manager Dave Brown announced today that Wes Wolfe, Otters Assistant Coach, has been named the Head Coach of the Coburg Cougars of the Ontario Junior Hockey League effective immediately.
“We wish Wes the utmost success in his future endeavors with the Coburg Cougars,” said Dave Brown. “We experienced some great times as an organization during his tenure, which we will always share and vividly remember. Wes played an important role in how we approach the development process, and for this he will leave a lasting presence with the organization. But what we will miss the most is his eccentric ways, witty humor, and willingness to make Erie a better place.”
Wolfe joined the Otters for the 2016-17 season as an Assistant Coach following his season with the St. Catharines Falcons of the GOJHL where he served as Head Coach and Assistant General Manager. The Niagara Falls native helped improve the Otters outlook into statistical information with his background in analytical data systems that has further advanced the team’s player development moment.
“The decision to leave the Erie Otters and the Ontario Hockey League was an extremely difficult one, and I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the owners Jim and Sheila Waters; and to General Manager Dave Brown and the entire Otters organization for my time in Erie. I am so proud of what we were able to accomplish and hope to reach the same levels of success in Cobourg,” said Wolfe.
“To the Otters fans, community, and media: There’s nothing quite like hearing 7,000+ fans belting out, “Sweet Caroline”. You are easily the most rabid, unique, and passionate fan base I have ever encountered. Just know how important your support and voices are to the organization. I will truly miss the time spent with the great community organizations like the Mighty Otters Sled Hockey team, Sarah Reed Center, and so many more,” continued Wolfe.
“I am beyond excited to be joining the Cobourg Cougars organization and look forward to reestablishing our place as one of the premier programs in all of Junior A hockey. After meeting with the management team of Alex Guiney, Bob Breckles and Todd Reid, I was very confident that there is a vision and infrastructure in place to make this happen. We will continue to emphasize the development of our players as people-first, with an eye on combining long-term individual growth and sustainable team success. I am very grateful for the opportunity and can’t wait to begin,” said Wolfe.
