Otters Rookies Stand Out in Preseason Win
Komoka, Ontario – The Erie Otters won the final of two preseason games against the London Knights last night at the Komoka Community Centre ice rink, 4-2.
This time, the Otters opened the scoring just over a minute into the first with a goal from Gera Poddubnyi. Nine minutes later, Cade Robinson scored to make it 2-0.
The second period got off to a heated start, with Otters’ new pick-up Gianluca Fuoco and Knights’ Ian McKinnon both receiving Fighting Majors and Game Misconducts at 3:26. The only goal of the period came from London’s Liam Foudy just under halfway through the second to put the Knights within one goal of tying the game. The period ended with another set of Fighting Majors and Game Misconducts, this time handed to Otters’ rookie Kurtis Henry and the Knights’ Lucas Rowe.
In the third period, Otters’ rookie Maxim Golod scored on the power play to make it 3-1, with Kyle Maksimovich and rookie Chad Yetman tallying assists on the game winning goal. London answered with a goal three minutes later from Liam Whittaker to once again put them within one. With under a minute to go in the game, London pulled goaltender Jordan Kooy for the extra attacker. Recent Otters’ acquisition Alex Gritz sealed the deal for the Otters with an empty net goal for the final score of 4-2, Otters.
Shots on goal were relatively even at 28 for the Otters and 27 for the Knights. Otters’ goaltender Troy Timpano ended with a save percentage of 0.926 to Jordan Kooy’s 0.857.
The Otters open their regular season in a matchup against the Peterborough Petes this Thursday at 7:05pm at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.
