Knights thump Spitfires on Family Day
LONDON, ON – Easton Cowan extended his point streak to 24 games after his three-point outing helped the London Knights secure a 7-2 win against the Windsor Spitfires at Budweiser Gardens on Monday afternoon.
Cowan, a Toronto Maple Leafs prospect, scored his sixth shorthanded goal of the campaign and dished two assists to bring his totals to 27 goals and 75 points this season.
Denver Barkey and Landon Sim also recorded three points and had the same stat line as Cowan, but they both scored in even-strength play.
After Ethan Martin put the Spitfires ahead 1-0 early in the first period, the Knights scored twice in under two minutes. Just after the midway mark, Jackson Edward converted on a rebound to tie the game at one for the Knights, and shortly after, Cowan capitalized on a one-timer from Barkey to put London up 2-1.
Within the final five minutes of the opening frame, Ryan Abraham scored his 24th on a penalty shot to tie the game at two. Max McCue replied quickly by finishing a tic-tac-toe passing play to give the Knights a 3-2 lead heading into the second period.
Sam Dickinson and Ruslan Gazizov rounded out the scoring for the Knights, and each registered an assist as well.
Knights netminder Michael Simpson stopped 25 shots in his 28th win of the year, while Joey Costanzo made 21 saves for Windsor before being pulled for Max Donoso, who made 20 stops in relief.
London outshot the Spitfires 48-27.
The Knights are now 4-0-0-0 against Windsor this season and are back in action on Friday as they head to Kingston for a clash with the Frontenacs.
