LONDON, Ont. – Sam Dickinson, eligible for the 2024 National Hockey League Draft, scored two goals and recorded four points on Friday night to help lift the London Knights past the Sarnia Sting 5-1 and extend their winning streak to five games.
Within the final three minutes of the second period, London’s league-leading power play went to work twice, and it was Dickinson who capitalized on both, scoring the third and fourth goals for the Knights. The first was a one-timer from the right circle, and the second was a tip from a Ruslan Gazizov shot. The 6-foot-3 defenceman now has 32 points through 34 outings this season.
Just over five minutes into the game, Max McCue lit the lamp to put London ahead 1-0 and extend his goal streak to nine consecutive contests. The San Jose Sharks prospect, who was alone in the slot, received a pass from Landon Sim before quickly wiring a shot perfectly into the bottom left corner, beating the blocker of Sarnia netminder Karsen Chartier.
Shortly after, McCue put the Knights up 2-0 with his 17th of the campaign and second of the night, roofing the puck over Chartier’s glove from the left circle.
Following the two markers from Dickinson, Sarnia forward Tyson Doucette made it 4-1 in the third period with his 13th goal of the year.
Adding to his two-assist outing, Gazizov found the back of the net 20 seconds later to make it a 5-1 game. Denver Barkey and Sam O’Reilly also had two helpers for London.
Michael Simpson made 25 saves in his 17th win of the season, while Chartier stopped 35 shots in the loss.
On Sunday afternoon, London hosts the Flint Firebirds.
