Jacob Julien explodes for three points as Knights end losing skid against Sting
LONDON, Ont. – Jacob Julien recorded a goal and two assists as the London Knights snapped a two-game losing streak by defeating the Sarnia Sting 4-1 in Ontario Hockey League action on Tuesday night, securing a Teddy Bear Toss victory.
Jared Woolley buried his first OHL goal to put London ahead 1-0 early in the opening period. The defenceman’s marker cued the fans to send over 11,000 teddies, a Knights record, onto the ice. Skating in the slot, Woolley received a pass from Julien, a Winnipeg Jets prospect, before sliding the puck past Sarnia netminder Nick Surzycia.
Three minutes into the second period, Max McCue extended the lead to 2-0 for the green and gold with his sixth goal of the year. The San Jose Sharks prospect buried a one-timer right in front of the net to give Julien his second helper of the game.
Shortly after, the Sting would score their lone goal on the man advantage to cut the deficit in half. James Barr tucked away his second of the campaign on a wrist shot from the point that got through traffic and beat the blocker of Knights goalie Michael Simpson.
In the final frame, Julien buried his ninth of the season on the league’s second-ranked power play. The forward found the loose puck down low, then lifted a shot over Surzycia’s glove. Easton Cowan, who tallied two points, later scored to make it a 4-1 game.
Simpson made 22 saves in his 12th win of the year, while Surzycia turned away 40 shots in the loss.
London is back in action on Friday night against the visiting Saginaw Spirit.
