THIRD PERIOD COMEBACK COMES UP SHORT IN KINGSTON
Max Domi’s 30th goal of the season brought the Knights to within a goal late in the third, but the Knights fell 4-3 in Kingston on Sunday afternoon.
The Frontenacs got on the board first on a 4-on-3 power play as Londoner Spencer Watson took a pass in the slot and beat Tyler Parsons to the stick side with a hard snap shot. Forty-four seconds later, the Knights got that goal back as C.J. Yakimowicz powered through two Kingston defencemen and got a shot on goal. He was stopped, but Victor Mete used his speed to get to the net, found the puck and knocked it home for a 1-1 tie.
The Frontenacs went ahead for a second time on a goal by Ryan Verbeek, who was able to sweep home a rebound in front and the Knights found themselves down by a goal after twenty minutes.
Matt Rupert tied the game just 3:10 into the second period, thanks to a feed from Mitch Marner. Rupert stood in front on a power play and London made four tic-tac passes and Rupert finished the play just seven seconds into the man advantage.
The see saw game continued courtesy of Sam Bennett, who got a shot away and tucked home his own rebound on a wrap-around.
Evan McEneny increased Kingston’s lead to 4-2 as he knocked home a rebound on a power play before the end of the second period.
Domi scored goal number 30with 6:18 left, but London could not find Friday’s magic to tie it and lost 4-3.
Tyler Parsons stopped 44 of 48 shots for the Knights, including several huge saves in the second period.
London will come home to face Kitchener on Thursday at 7:00PM. The Knights will be kicking off an organ donation campaign with Don Cherry, who will be at the game.
