MITCHELL MARNER NAMED TO TEAM CANADA U-18 NATIONAL TEAM

Hockey Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Hockey League, announced Tuesday the 22 players who will comprise Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team at the 2014 U18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup, Aug. 11-16 in Breclav, Czech Republic and Piestany, Slovakia.

Included in the list of 22 players is London Knights forward Mitchell Marner.  Marner will look to build off his 9 point performance for Team Ontario at the 2013 U-17 World Hockey Challenge.  After being drafted in the 1st round (19th overall) of the 2013 OHL Entry Draft, he recorded 59 points (13 goals, 46 assists) and was a plus 38, being named to the OHL’s second all-rookie team last season.

The roster for Team Canada was finalized following a four day selection camp (Aug 2-5) at the Markin MacPhail Centre in Calgary Alberta. The Camp included daily practices and three Red/White intrasquad games.  Marner found himself on the score sheet at least once in each of the three Red/White games finishing with 1 goal and 4 assists in Camp play.

Team Canada will begin their quest for a 6th straight tournament crown against Switzerland on Monday, August 11. The semifinals are scheduled for August 15th with the bronze and gold medal matches  scheduled for the following day.
