MASTERCARD MEMORIAL CUP SCHEDULE
The Canadian Hockey League in association with the 2016 MasterCard Memorial Cup Host Committee have announced the final schedule and game times for the 2016 MasterCard Memorial Cup which takes place May 19-29 in Red Deer, AB.
The 98th edition of the CHL’s prestigious National Championship features the host Red Deer Rebels along with the Western Hockey League champion Brandon Wheat Kings, the Ontario Hockey League champion London Knights, and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League champion Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.
Round-robin action begins on Friday May 20 when the Rebels take on the Knights at 6:00 pm (8:00 pm Eastern), followed by a pair of weekend battles between the Wheat Kings and Huskies on Saturday May 21 at 5:00 pm (7:00 pm Eastern), and the Rebels against the Huskies on Sunday May 22 also at 5:00 pm (7:00 pm Eastern). The Wheat Kings will face the Knights on Monday May 23 at 6:00 pm (8:00 pm Eastern), while the Huskies take on the Knights on Tuesday May 24 at a revised time of 8:00 pm (10:00 pm Eastern). The round-robin concludes with an all-WHL matchup between the Rebels and Wheat Kings on Wednesday May 25 at 6:00 pm (8:00 pm Eastern).
If necessary a Tie-Breaker Game would be played on Thursday May 26 at 6:00 pm (8:00 pm Eastern) to determine the matchup for the Semi-Final which takes place on Friday May 27 at 6:00 pm (8:00 pm Eastern). The Championship Final is set for Sunday May 29 at 2:30 pm (4:30 pm Eastern).
The Memorial Cup will officially be welcomed to the City of Red Deer on Thursday May 19 as part of a special Arrival of the Cup ceremony and celebration in the heart of downtown Red Deer beginning at 11:00 am. All nine games of the championship will be broadcast live on Sportsnet and TVA Sports.
This season marks the first time the championship will be hosted by the province of Alberta since 1974. Of the four competing teams, the Rebels and Knights have both hoisted the trophy once in 2001 and 2005 respectively while the Wheat Kings and Huskies are in search of their first title.
