MAATTA WINS OLYMPIC BRONZE WITH FINLAND

Former London Knights defenceman Olli Maatta earned a bronze medal competing with Finland at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games on Saturday in a 5-0 victory over the United States in Sochi, Russia.

The 19-year-old member of the Pittsburgh Penguins played two seasons with the Knights from 2011-13 winning two Robertson Cup titles.

Maatta is the youngest member of the Finnish National Men’s Hockey Team and is the only Ontario Hockey League graduate on the club.

He finished the tournament with three goals and two assists in six games played and scored Finland’s fifth goal in the bronze medal contest.

In his first season with the Penguins, the 22nd overall pick in the 2012 NHL Draft has six goals and 17 assists for 23 points in 57 games.

The gold medal final takes place Sunday morning at 7am ET featuring Canada and Sweden with 10 former OHL players competing in the game including nine on Team Canada.

A total of 39 OHL alumni have competed in the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
