KNIGHTS TRAVEL NORTH
The London Knights will be on the road to complete their season series against Sault Ste. Marie on Friday night at the Essar Centre, home of the Greyhounds. In the team’s final regular season matchup, the Greyhounds will be looking to exact revenge on the Knights as the green and gold won their last meeting at Budweiser Gardens on March 4th.
The highlight of the night in the March 4th matchup were the three goals scored in 72 seconds by the Knights which proved to be enough to take home the contest. Aaron Berisha, Olli Juolevi, and Daniel Bernhardt would each pot one in this span as the Knights would finish off the Greyhounds by a score of 6-4 in front of a sold out crowd. Co-Captain, Christian Dvorak led the way in the game, tallying two goals and two assists for the Knights.
Coming off of a big 8-2 win over division rival Kitchener, the Knights will look to continue their momentum heading into the playoffs. Two of the three major milestones for Knights players were reached in the matchup against the Kitchener Rangers on Tuesday night. Overager Aaron Berisha scored his 40th goal of the season, while Matthew Tkachuk registered his 100th point of the year. The one missing, Christian Dvorak, who is still waiting to pot his 50th goal of the season. While this 50th goal is a significant milestone to hit for the Frankfort native, he still would rather see the success of the team as a whole than reaching any personal accomplishments.
The Knights will have an opportunity to take sole control of first place in the league standings tonight as Erie is also active, as the Otters travel to Guelph to take on the Storm. Coming off a major upset against the Flint Firebirds, Erie’s schedule consists of a home-and-home against the Storm on Friday and Saturday, a matchup against the Owen Sound Attack on March 17th, in Erie, followed with what could be a standings deciding two game series against the Knights on March 18th and March 19th.
The Knights’ remaining schedule consists of tonight’s contest against Sault Ste. Marie, an away matchup in Saginaw against the Spirit on Saturday, a quick trip to Flint on Wednesday to take on the Firebirds, then the massive home-and-home series against the Otters. With four of the remaining five games on the road, battle for home ice throughout the playoffs continues tonight, in Sault Ste. Marie.
The Knights will return home on Friday, March 18th when they take on the Erie Otters. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm.
