KNIGHTS END WEEKEND IN SOO
By Yannis Economopoulos
LONDON, Ont. – Fresh off defeating a strong Saginaw Spirit team to kick off the weekend, the London Knights face another tough opponent in the Soo Greyhounds on Sunday afternoon. However, they’ll be without Oliver Bonk, Easton Cowan, Kasper Halttunen, and Denver Barkey, as they have headed to World Junior Selection Camp.
Players to Watch – London Knights (17-10-0-1)
Jacob Julien: After having his seven-game point streak snapped just over a week ago against the Mississauga Steelheads, it didn’t take Jacob Julien long to get into another groove. The Winnipeg Jets prospect heads to the Soo riding a three-game, seven-point streak, including goals in back-to-back contests. With 30 points in 28 outings this season, the hometown forward has already doubled last year’s total.
Sam O’Reilly: In his last 10 games, Sam O’Reilly has accumulated seven points and is coming off a two-assist outing against the Spirit on Friday. Although the Toronto, Ont. native hasn’t found the back of the net in a month, he is top five in the league in rookie scoring. With three key players away from the team, this is a perfect time for O’Reilly to step in and be an offensive force.
Know the Foe – Soo Greyhounds (19-8-2-0)
Jack Beck: In his last three games, Jack Beck has amassed five points on a goal and two helpers. The Calgary Flames prospect is looking for his 150th Ontario Hockey League point in front of a home crowd tonight. The over-age forward leads the Soo in assists (24) and points (33).
Arttu Karki: Like London’s Kasper Halttunen, Arttu Karki has come from Finland and is in the midst of his first OHL season. Karki, a Vegas Golden Knights third-round selection in 2023, leads the Greyhounds with 16 goals and is second in the league with 11 power play markers. The Finnish defenceman has 29 points in as many outings this season.
Standings
London holds the second spot in the Midwest Division with 35 points, while the Greyhounds sit on top of the West Division with 40 points.
This heavyweight matchup begins at 2:07 p.m. from the GFL Memorial Gardens.
