5 POINT KNIGHT FOR DVORAK
Christian Dvorak put up five points and the Knights scored four times on the power play to beat the Whalers 6-4 on Friday at Budweiser Gardens.
Dvorak scored three times and set up two others, giving him 9 points in back to back games. He had two goals and two assists in Sarnia on Thursday.
Dvorak picked up his fifth point in four periods, as he scored his 19th of the season on the power play to put the Knights ahead 1-0 at 6:55 of the first period. Michael McCarron kept a puck in at the blue line and then passed across the ice to Dvorak who held the puck long enough to make Whaler goalie Alex Nedeljkovic think he might pass off himself, and then snapped it past the Hurricanes’ prospect.
The Whalers tied the game on their own power play as Mat Campagna banged a centering pass past Tyler Parsons.
Then 1:43 later, Sonny Milano raced down left wing, drove the net and scored to put Pymouth ahead 2-1.
The lead didn’t last long. Aiden Jamieson threw a puck at the net just 48 seconds after the Whalers had tied the game and Mitch Marner batted it out of the air and past Nedeljkovic to tie the game 2-2.
London outshot the Whalers 21-12 in period one.
The Knights jumped ahead at 4:35 of the second period on the power play as Parsons and Mitch Marner had a bit of miscommunication in front of the London net on the power play. That seemed to make the Whalers on the ice think offense on the penalty kill and they seemed to jump up. Parsons alertly fired the puck into centre ice and Marner and Dvorak snuck in behind all but one of the Whalers and seconds later converted on a 2-on-1. Dvorak finished the play for his 20th goal of the year and a 3-2 London lead.
London’s power play scored twice more in the middle period.
Julius Bergman blasted a puck from the blue line that was deflected past Nedeljkovic by Michael McCarron for a 4-2 advantage.
Then Dvorak added his 50th point on the year, moving into 5th place in league scoring as he completed the hat trick with his fifth point on the night and ninth point in his last two games and the Knights led 5-2.
Before the end of the second period, Connor Sills slid home a nice feed from Campagna and it was 5-3 through 40 minutes.
The Whalers started quickly and tightened the game up as Sonny Milano took advantage of a missed clearing attempt by the Knights and fed Matt Mistele to make it 5-4 just 4:09 into period three.
The game stayed that way into the final two minutes when a penalty gave the Whalers a power play. Tyler Parsons made a huge glove save and a few more stops after that and then Julius Bergman hammered a slap shot from the bottom of the face-off circle in his own zone and into the Plymouth net to seal the Knights’ fourth straight win.
London’s power play was 4-8 in the game. The Knights outshot Plymouth 49-41 in the game.
London will host the Petes at 2 PM on Sunday. There are tickets available at 519-681-0800, at Gate 4 of Budweiser Gardens or click here.
