Weekend Wrap-UP
The IceDogs had a weekend to be proud of as they defeated Sudbury on Saturday while following that up with a huge win against the CHL’s top ranked Erie Otters on Sunday evening.
The game against Sudbury was significant as it locked Niagara into a playoff spot for the ninth straight year. Since moving from Mississauga to Niagara, the IceDogs have never missed the playoffs, a feat that only three other teams in the OHL can brag about in the past nine seasons. Niagara’s ability to continuously make a playoff push is indicative of their efforts each and every year to be the best they can on the ice and speak volumes about the team’s desire to win a championship.
The most notable year for the IceDogs organization came in the 2011-2012 season when we were to capture the Eastern Conference Championship.
Last night’s win against Erie was special for one player in particular, Graham Knott. His game winning goal mid-way through the third period was his 100th point of his OHL career. Knott has been a solid offensive player for the IceDogs since his rookie season in the 2013-14 season. His production at the OHL level hasn’t been overlooked which is evident from his selection in the second round by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
The IceDogs will look to carry their momentum from this past weekend into the final six games of the regular season in preparation for a deep playoff run.
