IceDogs Win Eastern Conference Bobby Orr Trophy with 3-2 Victory!

The Niagara IceDogs won game four Wednesday night by a score of 3-2 to win the Eastern Conference’s Bobby Orr Trophy by a series sweep of 4-0. The Meridian Centre held a record crowd of 5,580 to witness the series clinching victory.

The first period was a tight matchup as both teams generated quality scoring chances out of the gate. Barrie was able to get on the board first but the Dogs would fight back to go into the intermission all tied up. Stephen Harper deflected a Blake Siebenaler point shot to get his fourth of the playoffs and get the team on the board with just twenty seconds left in the period. Shots on goal were 11-7 for Barrie at the end of the frame.

The second period saw the Dogs build on their momentum and take control of the game. Call-up Jonathon Schaefer, who was playing his first game of the year for the Dogs took the puck to the net hard and watched his first OHL career goal trickle into the net to put the Dogs up 2-1. Josh Wesley then let a beautiful wrist shot go from the point which found its way by a screened Mackenzie Blackwood. Niagara led the period in shots by a total of 13-5.

The Dogs played their heart and soul out in the final period, doing everything they could to secure the victory. Barrie managed to get a late one on the board but Alex Nedeljkovic and the Dogs’ defence shut down the Colts completely after that. The Meridian Centre exploded when the final horn went off as the Dogs were able to secure the Bobby Orr Trophy for the second time in the teams’ history. The Dogs will now face off against the London Knights in the OHL finals. Tickets will be on sale starting this Friday at 12:00 PM and can be purchased at all IceDogs’ ticketing locations.
