IceDogs Silence Wolves, with 3-2 Win
The Niagara IceDogs defeated the Sudbury Wolves Saturday night by a score of 3-2, in a tightly knit battle.
Both teams got off to a heated start Saturday night as the score was tied 1-1 before the clock was able to countdown a single minute. Sudbury opened the scoring 25 seconds into the contest, and the Dogs responded just 17 seconds later when Blake Siebenaler floated a wrist shot past the goalie from the point. Siebenaler would put the team up 2-1 just over six minutes later when snuck in another wrist shot from the point. The Dogs lead the period in shots on goal, 18-6.
The second period saw the Dogs capitalize on more of their chances as Pavel Jenys buried his 10th of the year off of a beautiful behind the back feed from Josh Ho-Sang. Jenys picked up his third point of the night with the goal against his former team. Alex Nedeljkovic stood tall and held the Dogs in the game, making 20 saves in the period in his second start in two nights.
The IceDogs played hard in the third and were strong defensively while holding on to their lead. The Wolves managed to get within one goal in the final minute but that was all they could muster up as the Dogs held on and won 3-2. With the win the IceDogs officially clinched a playoff spot and will look to claim home ice advantage in the coming weeks. Since moving to Niagara, the IceDogs join some elite company as only three other teams have been in the playoffs for the last nine consecutive years.
The IceDogs will head off to Erie to face off against the Otters on Sunday with a 5:00 PM start, and will return home next Thursday to play host to the Flint Firebirds. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at all IceDogs’ ticketing locations.
