IceDogs Set to Take on Greyhounds in Teddy Bear Toss
Returning home tonight, following a 6 game roadstand, the IceDogs host the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in our annual Teddy Bear Toss game! All stuffed animals thrown onto the ice following the first IceDogs goal will be donated in support of Victim Services Niagara and the St. Catharines General Hospital.
Tonight’s game features a rookie, who’s starting to make his mark in the league – just a few months into the season, and an OHL veteran continuing on the path to the professional ranks.
Akil Thomas, from Toronto, ON (originally Brandon, FL), is really starting to find his groove. Despite missing sometime out of the IceDogs lineup playing at the World U17 Hockey Challenege, he continues to rank amongst the top 10 in team points with 17 in 22 games. Of his 10 goals thus far, majority of them have come at opportune times – either scoring a big goal when the team needs it, or to insure the win. Thomas’ speed, dazzling stick work, and compete level are beginning to set him above the rest of his age group.
Similarly, Zach Senyshyn, a four year OHL veteran, has begun taking his game to another level as the season progresses. Sitting amongst the top 5 in Greyhounds scoring, Senyshyn’s defensive structured game, and skating is what makes him tough to contain. He and the Greyhounds will be a good test for the IceDogs as they begin to prepare to head into the 2nd half of the season.
