Decade of ‘Dogs – Josh Ho-Sang
Another Thursday means another Decade of ‘Dogs article, and thanks to your twitter votes on our official Niagara IceDogs twitter account (@ohlicedogs), this week we’re profiling former OHL star Josh Ho-Sang.
Hailing from Thornhill, Ontario, Josh Ho-Sang spent his minor days playing for the Toronto Marlboros of the OMHA, before being selected 5th overall in the 1st round of the 2012 OHL Priority Draft by the Windsor Spitfires. After spending two seasons with the Windsor Spitfires, where he compiled 129 points in 130 games, he was selected in the first round, 28th overall by the New York Islanders in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
Midway through his third season in the OHL, the Niagara IceDogs traded centre Hayden McCool along with second round picks in 2016, ‘17 and ’19 in exchange for Ho-Sang. With a fresh start in his newfound home, Ho-Sang was able to flourish. In his first year with the IceDogs, his production rose, and he finished with 14 goals and 62 points over 49 games with Niagara. He continued this strong output into the playoffs, contributing a goal and 16 points over 11 games.
This stronger offensive season helped earn him another invite to the New York Islander’s training camp. After being returned for a fourth year of development, Ho-Sang experienced one of the best seasons of his career. He set a career high in assists with 63, and fell 3 shy of his career mark for points, finishing with 82. However, Ho-Sang didn’t hit his full stride until the playoffs. There, he finished as the fifth highest scorer, and first on Niagara, contributing with 6 goals and 26 points over 17 games to help lead his team to the Bobby Orr Trophy as Eastern Conference Champions.
One of the most energetic players in IceDogs’ franchise history, Ho-Sang still continues to represent them in the only way that he has even known – through excellence.
