Kevin He Becomes Highest Chinese Born Player Drafted Into The NHL
LAS VEGAS, NV – Niagara IceDogs forward, Kevin He, has become the highest Chinese-born player drafted into the National Hockey League (NHL) after being selected in the 4th round, 109 overall by the Winnipeg Jets.
Kevin He was originally born in Beijing, China where he would get his start in hockey with rollerblading when he was four years-old. When he was six years-old his family would make the move to Montreal, marking his first years of real organized hockey. By the age of 12 his family would then move to Toronto and he began playing for the North York Rangers AAA program in the GTHL. He would see his name called by the Niagara IceDogs, 25th overall in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection. In two seasons in the OHL He has amassed 52 goals and 87 points in 130 career games played.
He becomes only the second Chinese born player drafted after Andong Song was picked 172th overall by the New York Islanders in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
