IceDogs Stumble Against Spirit
Saginaw, MI – The Niagara IceDogs were not able to grab the two points on Saturday night, falling to (22-11-1-1) on the season after a 6-3 loss against the Saginaw Spirit.
The first period was by far the quietest of the game, in which Saginaw broke the ice and scored five minutes into the first to put the Spirit up 1-0.
The second frame brought an intense battle, with both teams fighting for the next goal. After another Saginaw marker, the IceDogs responded with two goals in 80 seconds from both Ryan Roobroeck and Mike Levin to make it 2-2. After Saginaw took back the lead 3-2, Andrei Loshko tied it up once more at 3-3 late in the period on the Power Play.
The final twenty minutes were hard fought, with both teams in hot pursuit of breaking the tie. After a myriad of penalties including a Jack Brauti match slew-foot call, Saginaw capitalized on the man-advantage to move ahead 4-3. 50 saves from Charlie Robertson were not enough for Niagara tonight, as a late insurance marker for the Spirit in addition to an empty netter gave Saginaw the 6-3 win.
The IceDogs are back in action on New Year’s Eve, against the visiting Peterborough Petes at the Meridian Centre at 6:00 pm.
