IceDogs Fall to Wolves
NIAGARA, ON – The Niagara IceDogs fell to (27-16-3-3) on the season, after a 7-3 loss against the Sudbury Wolves.
The Wolves wasted no time getting on the board, as Henry Mews found the back of the net just 31 seconds into the game. Sudbury kept it rolling in the first period, with goals from Kieron Walton on the power play and Nathan Villeneuve, building a 3-0 lead.
Niagara managed to respond late in the frame, as Ryan Roobroeck capitalized on a feed from Ethan Czata and Kevin He to cut the deficit to 3-1 heading into the first intermission.
However, Niagara’s momentum was quickly erased as Sudbury struck again just 26 seconds into the second period. Rowan Henderson netted another goal off an assist from Mews. The Wolves added two more insurance markers before the end of the period, with Donovan McCoy and Walton each finding the back of the net to push the lead to 6-1.
Niagara showed signs of life early in the third, as Kevin He buried his 27th goal of the season off a setup from Callum Cheynowski and Ivan Galiyanov. But Sudbury quickly responded, with Quentin Musty adding another tally to extend their lead.
The IceDogs closed out the scoring with a late goal from Sean Doherty, assisted by Andrei Loshko, but it was unfortunately too little, too late.
Despite the loss, Niagara fought until the final whistle. The IceDogs will look to regroup as they return home for their next matchup.
The IceDogs are back in action on Saturday, February 8th against the Kitchener Rangers for Country Night at the Meridian Centre at 7:00 PM.
