IceDogs Can’t Close Out Colts
BARRIE, ON – The Niagara IceDogs fell to (27-15-3-2) on the season, after a 7-6 overtime loss against the Barrie Colts.
The Niagara IceDogs put up a strong fight, but ultimately fell 7-6 in overtime to the Barrie Colts in a high-scoring, back-and-forth battle.
Sean Doherty was the standout for Niagara, netting his first hat-trick of the season, while Ryan Roobroeck, Andrew Wycisk, and Blake Arrowsmith also added goals for the IceDogs.
The IceDogs came out flying, jumping to an early 2-0 lead, but Barrie responded quickly to even the score. Special teams played a key role in tonight’s contest, with Niagara capitalizing for three power-play goals, including Doherty’s third of the night in the second period.
The game remained tight heading into the final frame, where Andrew Wycisk and Blake Arrowsmith gave the IceDogs a late edge, but Barrie refused to back down.
Carter Lowe and Anthony Romani struck in the third, with Romani’s goal tying the game at 6-6 with just over two minutes left, with Romani’s goal sending the game to an extra frame.
In overtime, it was Kashawn Aitcheson who played hero for the Colts, scoring just 40 seconds into the extra frame to seal the win. Despite the tough loss, Niagara’s offence shined, and their power play continued to be a difference-maker in a hard-fought battle.
The IceDogs are back in action with a quick turnaround on Sunday, February 2nd against the North Bay Battalion once again at the North Bay Memorial Gardens at 1:00 pm.
