Giancarlo Chanton Continuing Path to NHL Draft
It’s obvious that Covid-19 has created difficulties for players looking for an elite development experience in their NHL draft year. Niagara IceDogs’ defenceman Giancarlo Chanton, however, has found a way to get his reps in close to home.
The 18-year-old native of Busserach, Switzerland is playing on loan with SC Langenthal. In 13 appearances with the Swiss League team, he has collected two points (1G, 1A). He has also appeared in six games alongside his twin brother, Linus, with Langnau U20. The skilled blueliner has managed one goal with his junior squad.
Afforded the opportunity to represent his country at the 2021 World Junior Hockey Championships. Giancarlo joined Rod Mawhood on the Niagara Sports Report to discuss his performance in the Edmonton bubble, and the ultimate goal of being selected in the NHL Draft.
Niagara’s first-round selection (47th overall) in the 2019 CHL Import Draft, Chanton skated in 56 games for the IceDogs, registering eight points in his first OHL season.
