GAMEDAY PREVIEW: IceDogs face Rangers in rare Wednesday home game!
Your Niagara IceDogs are home tonight in a rare Wednesday night game. The Kitchener Rangers come to town tonight for the first and only time this season. Tonight also marks the first game of the season between the ‘Dogs and Rangers after they played a pair of games in the preseason. Both teams look significantly different compared to the last time they faced off. Tonight’s game is presented by Edward Jones.
The ‘Dogs come into this game following a huge winning weekend with a pair of wins against the Otters and a 6-3 come from behind win against the Colts.
The ‘Dogs are being led on the scoresheet by Sam Miletic, who’s collected 7 pts in the 3 games he’s played as an IceDog. Miletic currently sits 4th in league scoring with 61 points on the season. He also ranks 3rd in league assists, with 41, while Akil Thomas ranks 5th with 37 assists. Despite the powerplay having struggled as of late, Akil Thomas continues to rank in the top 5 of league powerplay assists. Stephen Dhillon comes into this game sitting in 4th in most wins by a goalie with 21 wins on the season. Ben Jones has been rolling recently, picking up his 6th 3-point game of the season last Saturday in Erie.
The ‘Dogs will be facing one of the leagues’ top scorers in Adam Mascherin, who has 56 points on the season – ranking 5th in the league. Mascherin also ranks 3rd in the league for 3rd most goals scored with 29. Consequently, tonight poses a significant opportunity for the ‘Dogs powerplay to continue improving as the Rangers have two of the most penalized players in the league listed on their roster, with Logan Stanley (78 PIMs) and Connor Hall (73 PIMS).
The IceDogs have received other secondary scoring from second year forwards Danial Singer and Oliver Castleman, while the defensemen have become more active in the offensive zone, especially with the activation of defensemen Liam Ham, and Elijah Roberts, when the ‘Dogs have extended control of the puck in the opposition’s zone.
