Dogs’ Donate More Than $30,000 to Local Charities- Community Care & Autism Ontario- Niagara Chapter
The Niagara IceDogs are proud to announce that they have donated more than $30,000 to two deserving charities in the Niagara region over the last two weeks.
Betty-Lou Souter, CEO of Community Care of St. Catharines & Thorold joined IceDogs owners Bill and Denise Burke for a cheque presentation last week for the amount of $15,000. These funds were raised through the Dogs’ Ugly Christmas specialty jerseys that were worn at the game on December 16th. These ugly, yet attractive jerseys were a big hit among fans with goaltender Stephen Dhillon’s jersey leading the way at $800, followed closely by defenceman Drew Hunter at $700, along with four players- Kirill Maksimov, Johnny Corneil, Billy Constantinou and Philip Tomasino selling for $625 each.
Today Bill and Denise Burke were joined by representatives from Autism Ontario- Niagara Chapter including Chapter Manager Fran Chesney, Fund Development Coordinator, Jennifer Chrysler Loney and President of the Board, Mike Gowan to present the Niagara Chapter with a cheque for the amount of $15,350.
On October 21st the Dogs’ wore specialty jerseys with an Autism Awareness theme. After the game these one-of-a-kind jerseys were auctioned off in support of Autism Ontario- Niagara Chapter. IceDogs forward Akil Thomas and defenceman Elijah Roberts’ jerseys sold for $1,200 each, while goaltender Stephen Dhillon, Edmonton Oilers draft pick Kirill Maksimov and Dogs rookie standout Philip Tomasino’s jerseys each sold for $850 respectively. Goaltender Stephen Dhillon also wore a specially designed mask that was auctioned off online and sold for an impressive $1,235.
