GAME RECAP | Jones gets hat trick and Dhillon blanks Hamilton in 10-0 thriller
Stephen Dhillon got a shutout and Ben Jones scored a hat trick in tonight’s thrilling 10-0 IceDogs win against the Hamilton Bulldogs. This was the last game against Hamilton this regular season.
The game started off strong for the ‘Dogs as they scored three goals during the first period! Phil Tomasino kicked off tonight’s scoring. Oliver Castleman skated behind the net and passed to Tomasino waiting just outside the crease, who then scored into the open net for his goal. The next was a powerplay tally scored by Captain Ben Jones! Akil Thomas sent a pass from one faceoff circle to Jason Robertson, who was waiting in the other. Robertson passed to Jones, waiting right at the side of the net and slipped it behind Hamilton’s netminder! The period ended with a second powerplay goal, a backhander by Kyen Sopa from Elijah Roberts at the blueline. The secondary assist was credited to Kirill Maksimov.
The second period was a wild one for the ‘Dogs as they added six goals and outshot the Bulldogs 23-11! Goals four through six were scored in under three minutes. The fourth was a shorthanded goal by Jones streaking down the offensive zone, with the assists credited to Jacob Paquette and Jack Studnicka. Tomasino scored just under a minute later, from his knee through the slot, assisted by Maksimov. The sixth was scored by Studnicka on the powerplay. The assists were credited to Jason Robertson and goalie Stephen Dhillon! The seventh was scored by Paquette with a clapper from the blue line assisted by Daniel Bukac and Studnicka. For the eighth goal, Robertson shot a pass to Thomas, who scored from the side of the net. Elijah Roberts was credited with the other assist. With the ninth goal of the night, Jones got a hat trick! Much like the goal before, Roberts was credited with the assist.
The third period remained relatively quiet for both teams, with the exception of Sopa’s second goal of the night and our 10th of the game. His goal was assisted by Robertson and Dhillon.
In tonight’s 10-0 win, Jones got his third hat trick of the season and second against Hamilton at home. He and Maksimov extended their point streaks to nine games, and Dhillon got two assists. Stevie made 21 saves on route to his third shutout of the season.
