2021 CHL Import Draft gets underway at 11:00am
The 2021 CHL Import Draft gets underway over at CHL.ca on Wednesday, June 30 at 11:00am ET, with Ontario Hockey League clubs set to select third in the rotation of CHL regional leagues.
The IceDogs will be selecting 18th and 105th overall. Giancarlo Chanton has signed a contract to play professionally in Europe and will not be returning to the IceDogs next season. Despite making two selections in the 2021 CHL Import Draft, the IceDogs will not be releasing the rights to Danil Gushchin. His rights have been protected, in the event, he is sent back to junior hockey from the San Jose Sharks and/or San Jose Barracuda.
The OHL’s order of CHL Import Draft selection was determined by way of a draft lottery held back in May. Teams are selecting in inverse order of their placement for the 2021 OHL Priority Selection. OHL clubs will be picking in a snake format, with the order of selection for the first round reversed to start the second.
Unlike past editions of the Import Draft, this year’s version will take place prior to the annual NHL Draft that won’t be held until July 23-24, 2021.
