Oshawa General Alumni Boone Jenner Wins Gold with team Canada
Team Canada wins back to back gold medals at the World Hockey Championships this past weekend in Russia. Ten OHL graduates played for Canada, including Oshawa General alumni Boone Jenner, Connor Mcdavid (Erie Otters), Max Domi (London Knightrs), Matt Duchene (Brampton Battalion) and more.
Connor Mcdavid scored the game-winning goal in a 2-0 victory over Finland. Matt Duchene added a second goal on an empty net just before the buzzer. Canada successfully defended it’s title from last year. They went into the championship game strategically to play defensively against Finland. Canada held the majority of possession, not allowing Finland to take it. They held Finland to only 16 shots on net, while they had a total of 33. Talbot saved all of Finland’s shots to make his fourth shutout of the tournament.
General’s alumni and previous Captain, Boone Jenner played in the OHL from 2009-2013. Playing a total 227 games, Scoring 111 goals, 135 assists and had a total of 246 points while playing for the Gens. Jenner played 10 games with team Canada in the IIHF Worlds. The 6’1”, 205lbs, 22 year old played forward. Jenner wore #38 on his jersey over the weekend as he and his teammate’s shutout Finland.
Drafted 37th overall by the Blue Jackets in 2011, Jenner finished his 2015-16 season with 30 goals and 49 points through a full 82 game season -making him the third-highest scoring forward on the roster.
Jenner wasn’t new to the international hockey circuit – the 22 year old forward played for the Canadian U17 in 2010 and U20 roster in both 2012 and 2013 – but this was his first time returning to the Canadian team in three years. During the championship the Dorchester, Ont native, scored 2 goals, made 2 assists and had a total of 4pts.
