Round 3 Game 6: Troops take over at the Gardens for a tied series
North Bay, Ont. – The Oshawa Generals and North Bay Battalion met for Game Six at the North Bay Memorial Gardens where the Troops took over with an 8-1 win and tied the series 3-3.
43 seconds into the game, Dalyn Wakely opened the scoreboard after a pass across the crease landed right on his stick for a quick tuck beating Oshawa’s Jacob Oster back door to make it 1-0 Battalion.
Eight minutes remaining in the first frame and the Generals took their first penalty kill where the Battalion was all over them. The powerplay goal came from Sandis Vilmanis as he hopped on a rebound off of Owen Van Steensel’s initial shot from the point to make it 2-0 Troops.
The third goal of the game came a quick one-and-a-half minutes later when Battalion’s Brice Cooke grabbed his third of the playoffs from a wrist shot high in the Generals zone.
Battalion took their fourth of the game in the first period when Van Steensel got his first of the night after walking in from centre ice and firing it backhand through Oster.
North Bay captain Liam Arnsby hit the scoreboard after a wrist shot that trickled in through Oster’s five-hole and that’s when the Generals put in Noah Bender for a goalie swap seven and a half minutes into the second.
Van Steensel earned his fourth point of the game and second goal after capitalizing on the North Bay powerplay as he rifled one bar down on Bender.
Less than a minute left in the second period and Generals’ defenceman Ben Danford secured his third of the postseason as he got the team on the board with a wrist shot that went past McIvor’s pad for a 6-1 score going into the third.
Just under nine minutes until the final buzzer and North Bay made the score 7-1 after a pass was intercepted by Justin Ertel, who walked in and sent it past Bender.
Less than four minutes and the Battalion grabbed one more from Jacob Therrien for his third of the playoffs.
