Jacob Oster named OHL’s Goaltender of the Week
Oshawa, Ont., – For the second time in just four weeks, Oshawa Generals netminder Jacob Oster has been named OHL’s goaltender of the week.
Four games in seven days kept Oster sharp as he went 2-2 with a 1.77 goals-against average, .952 save percentage, and made 139 saves, leading his team from the 12th to 8th spot in the OHL power rankings.
The January 1st game did not finish with the result the Generals were looking for as they faced off with the Kitchener Rangers and came up short at the TCC for their annual New Year opener. Oster stood on his head, stopping 30 of the 33 shots that he challenged including a second period where he made 15 saves along with a stunning glove grab on a backdoor pass and denying a couple of Rangers breakaway attempts. Oster received the second star of the night based on his outstanding performance in front of his home crowd.
A swift two days later, the Generals met with the SOO Greyhounds on January 3rd to bounce back from their Rangers loss. Oster again, stood on his head as he kept 42 shots of 43 out of his net and was awarded the night’s first star for carrying his team through the ringer.
The action did not stop there as the boys hopped on a bus and headed south of the border for their Michigan swing. The first matchup was Friday against the Flint Firebirds, and the Generals finally brought the heat with a 10-2 win. Saving 32 of 34 shots this game, it was a combined effort from Oster and the rest of the team to lock that dominated win.
To wrap up the week’s run, Oshawa and Saginaw met for a Sunday night showdown and the Generals brought it home with a 5-1 victory. Oster continued to remain level-headed between the pipes, stopping 35 of 36 shots, and rightfully so, deserving another first-game star.
The Generals will use this week to prep as they approach a 3-game weekend, starting with a face-off in Kingston on Friday, a rivalry game with the Petes on Saturday, and back at home vs. Kingston on Sunday, which could be your next chance to see Oster in action. Grab your tickets here.
