Generals win fifth straight game against Petes
Oshawa, Ont., – Three Oshawa Generals players had multi-point games as the Generals took down their rivals the Peterborough Petes 5-1 in their last game before Christmas.
Jacob Oster made 22 saves on 23 shots, while the Gens got goals from five different goal-scorers on their way to a five-game win streak.
Oshawa kicked the scoring off in this one as Lockhart created a turnover in the Petes’ end before throwing the puck on net banking it off the pad of Liam Sztuska and in for a 1-0 Gens lead on their first shot of the game. Peterborough would answer, and after some sustained offensive zone time, Jax Dubois pounced on a rebound and knocked it in the net to tie the game at 1-1.
With just over two minutes to go in the third the forecheck paid off again this time it was Dylan Roobroeck striping a Petes defenceman, the big man played a little give-and-go with Matthew Buckley before ringing one of the post. Luckily the puck came right back to him, and the New York Rangers prospect made no mistake the second time around making it 2-1 Oshawa.
Halfway through the second, that lead would double, Luca Marrelli made a pass to Beckett Sennecke who was cutting across the front of the net, and the skilled winger was able to control the pass before beating a sprawled-out Petes’ goalie making it 3-1 Gens.
In the last minute of the second period, the Gens found themselves working the puck around in the Petes’ end, Marrelli found Calum Ritchie in the slot all alone and the Generals centre fired it past Sztuska giving the Gens a 4-1 lead.
It was a quick start to the third period, as just 10 seconds into the frame it was Ritchie getting stuck in on the forecheck finding Rolofs who was sitting on the doorstep to redirect it into the Petes net making it 5-1 Oshawa.
The Oshawa Generals will return home after the holidays on Thursday, December 28th taking on the Brantford Bulldogs at 7:05pm.
