Generals earn Conference title after victory against Wolves
Oshawa, Ont., – The Oshawa Generals clinch the Eastern Conference as they took down the Sudbury Wolves for their 12th win in a row.
Calum Ritchie and Dylan Roobroeck each scored a pair in the victory while Jacob Oster was in net stopping 26 of the 27 shots that he faced.
It was the last regular season game of their careers for the Generals’ three over-agers: captain Stuart Rolofs, Connor Punnett and Connor Lockhart who all received tribute videos during the game.
Things got started in the second period when the Generals broke the deadlock after a great passing play was denied Matthew Buckley followed it up burying the loose opening the scoring making it 1-0 Gens.
Later in the second, the Gens would add to that lead on a powerplay when a shot from Beckett Sennecke hit the end boards and landed on the stick of Ritchie who made no mistake giving Oshawa a 2-0 lead.
In the third Ritchie would score his second of the game when he picked off a pass before driving to the net picking the top corner giving making it 3-0 Generals.
With just under 10 minutes to go in the game, Sudbury would get on the board as they created a turnover deep in the end and Kieron Walton found Zacharie Giroux who redirected it into the net cutting the lead to 3-1.
At the two-and-a-half-minute mark, Beckett Sennecke took a hit to get the puck to Ritchie who unselfishly gave it to Roobroeck and the big man buried in the empty net making it 4-1 Gens.
Then with five seconds to go Roobroeck would shoot it the length of the ice picking up his second empty netter of the game.
